Can we conquer the urge to avoid the wait?

For Blooming Festival 2024, we developed Align, an interactive installation inspired by Woad blue, the annual theme of the city of Pergola, hosting the event. Historically produced in the region, Woad blue is produced from the leaves of the Woad plant through a complex labor-intensive process of fermentation, extraction, and dyeing—one that demands patience and dedication. Drawing from this craft, Align explores the passage of time and gradual transformation, emphasizing how creating something beautiful often requires devotion and perseverance. This work invites viewers to reflect on the relationship between time, effort, and creation.

As visitors enter the installation space, they are immersed in an abstract, ever-evolving mesh of colors spread across five LED panels. However, only by remaining still does a new perspective unfold—a set of colorful gradients aligning with their position. The visual experience is deeply intertwined with sound. Each color key composing the gradients is synchronized with specific audio elements, creating a dynamicity between sight and sound. As viewers move, the color keys move along, generating a personalized experience, where the evolving colors guide the soundtrack. The longer visitors hold their position, the more the color keys gain freedom to move across the panels, gradually reshaping the gradients and transforming the audio.
